The origin of DACCORD®: born from experience
DACCORD® isn’t just a theoretical concept; it’s a practical method born from decades of real-world experience in managing complex collaborations. It was developed and refined by the Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (acib), a leading European research center specializing in industrial biotechnology.
With over 20 years of experience in coordinating large-scale national and international research consortia (like COMET K2 centres often involving 50-100+ partners), acib faced firsthand the immense challenges of negotiating agreements among diverse stakeholders – universities, research institutions, large companies, SMEs – under tight deadlines. Traditional negotiation methods often proved inefficient, frustrating, and prone to delays, jeopardizing project starts.
Driven by the need for a better, faster, and fairer way, acib systematically developed and tested the DACCORD® methodology internally. It integrates best practices in process management, structured communication, and all-partial facilitation to specifically address the pain points of multi-party negotiations in collaborative environments.
Our Misson:
As a publicly funded research center, acib is committed to disseminating its know-how and contributing to an efficient innovation ecosystem. By making the DACCORD® method available, we aim to share our hard-won experience, enabling other institutions, consortia, and organizations to save valuable time and resources – ultimately contributing to a more effective use of funds, including taxpayer money.

The method’s effectiveness stems directly from its practical origins and continuous application and refinement in demanding, real-world scenarios.
